The Narcissist. The term narcissist comes from the old world Greek gods, when the man Narcissus avoided the affections of a nymph named Echo, and instead fell in love with his own reflection.
The Narcissist is many things, as well I have had to learn. I have escaped, and escaped is the word we use, from my Narcissist of 8 years.
The Narcissist is, first and foremost, a child. Something terrible happened to them as children. Often due to what is entitled a "dead" mother---meaning one that is cold, distant, never there--- it can also be caused from being put on a pedestal.
The narcissist remains stuck, emotionally. He (70% are male) never ages emotionally past 2 to 6 years of age. He is a child, one who runs several puppets from a distance, attempting to hold up a mask for everyone. Some masks are held up for individuals only, some are held up for everyone. The narcissist will always let that mask slip. He cannot manage to keep it up all the time. He will fail.
Being stuck emotionally at 2 to 6 years of age is seen more easily if you have been around children that age. You will learn, as I did, how that childlike behavior presents itself.
There is no hope for someone with narcissim. They do not think they do anything wrong. When diagnosed, most insist they do not have it. They do not want to change. I am not sure that they even could. They are in such a high survival mode of operation that to stop their traits is to die.
There is one healthy answer. Get out. Stay out and never speak with them again. We will work on knowing what the narcissist does, what you can do about it, and how to get out.
This was a taste. Wait until we get into the dark side of the puppet known as the Narcissist .
